Latino Heritage Month

Happy Latino Heritage Month! I’m so excited to celebrate us, our history, culture and our contributions all month long! We are celebrating and honoring our ancestors who came from Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. Every year to celebrate HHM, I have the pleasure of meeting and photographing Hispanics in our community that are doing the damn thing.✨This year, most of the women featured are based out of sunny San Diego. Their thoughts on Hispanic heritage and their business links are below. Make sure to support them and give them a follow. Happy Hispanic Heritage Month!!🎉Let’s continue to empower, support and love one another!

“Red lipstick doesn't make a latina, gold hoops don't either. Those are just the cherries on top- but not a requirement. Latinas don't come in one size, shape, shade, or style. There is no one way for a latinx person to be, or look. We are a beautif…

“Red lipstick doesn't make a latina, gold hoops don't either. Those are just the cherries on top- but not a requirement. Latinas don't come in one size, shape, shade, or style. There is no one way for a latinx person to be, or look. We are a beautifully and brightly diverse people with varying cultures, nations, passions, struggles, races, and tongues... but all of us is as valid as the next. I believe that I am latinx af. The latinx in me sees and honors the latinx in you and I am obsessed with embracing and respecting our differences as well as our similarities. Being latinx isn't about fitting in with any cultural expectations- it is about the spirit of strength, solidarity, and resilience. About being totally and unapologetically exactly who you are- as we celebrate our culture together. I move through this world with immense privilege as a white passing mestiza, as a college educated, second generation Xicana... and to me, being a loud and proud latina means using this privilege for my people every day, as often and as fiercely as I can. After the August 3rd shooting in my hometown of El Paso, in the neighborhood I grew up in- I've become even louder, even more chingona, even more of a guerrera. Across the country- latinx communities, orgs, businesses, and artists heard our cry and showed solidarity with my El Paso family. This is what being latinx means to me- facing our oppressors, those ignorant and hateful to attack us when we've been here on our native land, with the strength of our whole community- standing together.” - Rebecca Ruiz 🇲🇽| Rebecca is the owner of Poco A Poco Latinx Boutique

“Everyday, I’m very proud and happy to be a Hispanic Latina. I’m a Peruvian with a ”P” like potatoes, since they are also originally from Peru. I always carry my heritage in my heart since it formed who I am; in my hands since it’s what I give, and in my dreams since it shapes my perspective and my goals. We always make time to celebrate, and even more when it’s the “Hispanic Heritage Month”. It’s the time to show our culture, our art and our delicious gastronomy.” - Silvana Carranza 🇵🇪| Owner of Ch’aska Peruvian Cuisine, and Homemade Desserts by Silvana
