Latino Heritage Month

Happy Latino Heritage Month! For this year’s project, I met some incredible business owners based in San Diego. I loved learning more about their story and how their businesses came about. Thank you to all the amazing women who took time out of their day to be a part of this! You all inspire me. Let’s continue to celebrate and encourage one another. ✨

“Hispanic Heritage Month means celebrating the cultures that created you! Every family & home has their own special traditions and recipes that stay in our heart forever! We carry those into our life going forward, from how we prepare our rice to how we celebrate Christmas. This month is about embracing what made us who we are today!” - Jasmine Stewart, Owner of Ethical Body Care

“Hispanic Heritage to me, means my name gets to be mentioned in rooms because my ancestors found hope on the other side of walls. I get to honor their sacrifices by cultivating a culture in my community where people feel represented, seen, inspiration, and love through my story. We are a different breed. We are the sazón to every meal! I am honored to be the same color as the Earth.” - Becky, Owner of Feliz Fit Camp

“Being a hispanic woman society expects you to cook, clean and serve the family. As much as I appreciate learning these traits, as I gotten older I realized for myself I have more to offer and I define the woman I AM. Even though I may not be married, in a relationship or have kids, I am a proud Latina woman who is nurturing, healing and supporting herself. I believe I found a balance where I honor my roots and still give myself permission to go outside the lines if needed. Hispanics naturally have solid work ethic, strong faith and unconditional love, which I will always honor within myself. I want younger girls/boys to feel confident in who they are even if it make not fit the role. WE CHOOSE OUR ROLE. We define who we are and it does not make us any less of our ethnicity.” - Jazmin Talamantes, Published Model

“Recognizing the sacrifices our ancestors made to come to this country and leaving their families behind in hopes to provide a greater future but as well as recognizing and honoring the traditions and customs our families had before coming here.” - Susie Enciso, Owner of Azure Attire

“Latino Heritage to me is all about our roots, recognizing the struggles our parents and grandparents went through, embracing their stories and proudly carrying them in our day to day lives. My family is my biggest motivation in everything I do; they are the ones who taught me to reach for my dreams and to never give up, not only with their words but with their incredible example. Our beautiful culture is all about working hard, la familia, and of course the best food! I wouldn’t want to have it any other way. Happy Latino Heritage Month!”- Melody Larios, Owner of Cakes by Melody

“Latino Heritage is not something that I have to think about. "I am Latino Heritage". It's in my blood, soul and spirit. Growing up in a Latino Household I did not know there was any other way to be. I am proud to express my Heritage/My Roots in my work. When I won Project Runway it was my Latino Flower Crowns, prints, and colors that set me apart. I will always have the influences of my heritage be the foundation for everything I create--but then again "It's in my blood"!!” - Ashley Nell Tipton, Clothing Designer and Project Runway Winner.
